What's In Your Beauty Products?

Over the past year or so, I’ve been slowly replacing my beauty products with products that I know are better for my skin and my body. What I put ONTO my body eventually goes INTO my body, so I’ve been making one effort to remain conscious of what ingredients are in my every day products. A few months ago, I was researching various beauty companies and I was shocked to discover that the U.S. only bans about 10 chemicals while Europe bans more than 1,400! What the?!

Examples of chemicals that are banned in Europe but not in the U.S. are: carcinogens, parabens, coal tar dyes. These chemicals in particular are linked to cancer, asthma, and reproductive issues. The list of banned ingredients is huge and there is a push to regulate more products in the U.S. Until then, we are left to vet our products to ensure we are not being exposed to harmful chemicals.

I found this article to be helpful when I started to research what harmful ingredients could be in my products. I recently made the switch to Beautycounter products and think this list is helpful.

Replacing your beauty products is annoying and expensive, but do you want to keep using products that are linked to the issues mentioned above?

I’m not here to preach a specific company/brand, but I think it is important to make you aware of the harmful ingredients that could be in your products. It is crazy to think that U.S. still uses chemicals that have been banned in other countries. Review your products and start to eliminate those that have harmful ingredients. There are plenty of companies that ban these harmful ingredients. Find the one that works best for you so you can start taking better care of your body.
